So I recently discovered Oz and how awesome a show it is. I was catching season 4 on demand and was totally hooked, and just finished season 1 online today. Season 1 is kind of eh for the most part until ti gets to the last few eps. Saïd is totally fucking awesome, of course, but I was expecting worse stuff from Schillinger and Adabisi, but I guess there's still more to come for them! I sort of wish I'd discovered the show sooner, to fill in more of the gaps between the Day of Black Sun part 1+2 and the rest of Book Three of Avatar. OMG AVATAR

This is just the pencil but I think it turned out! Character is Hibari from Katekyo Hitman Reborn! (exlamation point is part of title). The pose leaves much to be desired, but it fits? I have to incorporate clouds in there and maybe some birds, details I totally forgot about (so much for being an illustrator lolz :[ ) but can place in later?

Just thought I'd give a slight update. I forgot how to draw, so I've been trying to remember by looking at Jen Wang stuff (www.jenwang.net) and etc. It's working.

I really, really want to get back on track with learning a second language. So, I'm thinking I'm going to try and incorporate my livejournal to focus and foster that endeavor. I'll probably even put up some conlang notes if I can actually organize those thoughts into a comprehensible light.

My portfolio review was flattering and the first of I hope a few comics was put in the school newspaper, and the staff seemed to generally like it. Needless to say I'm kinda pumped for some artisticness. : ) As soon as I figure out my camera I think I'll do a massive dump of what all I did the past couple years. Or not. Point is I actually feel pretty good with myself right now. I also want to do much more writing.

One thing that sucks: I totally forgot about my site visit for Religion class! I missed the Friday Shabat service at both local synagogues. So I figure what I'm going to do is, is drop by the Cloud Water Zen Center in Cleveland all by myself at 7:00pm. If you don't hear from me after that you can assume I'm dead >_>

And that's it. I've wasted most of this day so I'm off to be constructive.

I'm still so far behind from what I want to be as an artist.

But my stories are going well, so that's good. Mostly due to my friend's insights, but they're going well nonetheless, and far be it for me to knock something that's actually developing.

I'm having a bit of an art lag, again. Trying to balance writing, drawing, coloring, and painting is resulting in grotesqueness. C'est la vie.

Recent movies seen: The Battle of Algiers, No Country for Old Men, Tales from Earthsea (Studio Ghibli), Akira Kurasawa's Ran. All fantastic. In other news, omg I have no monies.

This is the Black Ox Orekstar's album Ver Tanzt?. Yiddish Folk-Revival from Constellation, composed of members of Godspeed You! Black Emperor, a Silver Mt. Zion, Friends of Cush, and others. It's a four piece collective, and all members have played in multiple bands- but they all share a common Jewish heritage which they explore in Black Ox Orkestar. They write their own songs but also take songs from all over the Jewish diaspora, from the Balkans to the Sephardi, reviving them with Yiddish vocals, and create tunes that often touch upon the punk and jazz elements that might be expected from such a quartet. Their newest album came out in 2007 I believe, and it's even better than Ver Tanzt?, which was already a more than solid debut. They're definitely one of my favorites and I can't wait for a new album from them. I hope you like them too.
